' If a man really likes potatoes, he must be a really decent sort of fellow' A. A. Milne
Welcome to Potato NI
Potato NI came about through local interest in the work of John Clark OBE, a leading north Antrim potato breeder. Awareness of his work which had been promoted by Maurice McHenry in his book 'Potato Wizard' motivated the formation of a local interest group. This led to a blue plaque being placed on Innisfree Farm at the Giant's Causeway in April 2013 where he once lived and worked, this was kindly supported by the National Trust.
Following on from this it was decided that an annual potato event would be held to celebrate not only the humble potato but also to bring awareness of John Clarke's work to a wider audience. A Festival Committee was formed and the first event took place in October 2013, the feedback and evaluation of the event was very positive and so the festival was established. Last year over 7000 attended the event.
We are a voluntary group, so if you are interest in the potato and its promotion and would like to help the organisation in anyway then please do get in touch.
